When Ben was 2 weeks old, his father, Jeff, was carrying him and tripped over their Golden Retriever, falling down the stairs. Ben suffered a head injury that resulted in a stroke. They went to Children’s Colorado where was intubated due to frequent seizures. He stayed at the NICU for 2 weeks. Because of the amazing care at Children’s Colorado, the bleed in Ben’s brain stopped. They now see a stroke doctor and ophthalmologist quarterly at Children’s Colorado to monitor any effects from the stroke. Ben is developing normally for a 1-year-old. His parents, Jessica and Jeff, celebrate every one of Ben’s milestones, no matter how big or how small.

You never think it will happen to you.
